SLOVAKIA AND CROATIA ADVOCATE JOINT FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM
Slovakian President Rudolf Schuster and Croatian President Stjepan Mesic condemned recent terrorist attacks on the United States and agreed that cooperation of all countries was necessary in the struggle against terrorism. President Mesic arrived in Bratislava on September 25 on a three-day official visit to Slovakia, at the invitation of President Schuster, with whom he spoke about the global situation and the strengthening of bilateral relations. Addressing reporters after the talks, Mesic and Schuster denounced the terrorist attacks in the U.S. and underlined the need for international cooperation in the fight against terrorism. Schuster said Slovakia supported Croatia's approach to the European Union, as well as its joining of the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA). He announced the signing of a free trade agreement between Croatia and Slovakia. President Schuster expects Slovakian business people to seize the opportunities Croatia is providing, especially the Rijeka port free zone, and to become involved in the privatization of tourism in Croatia. President Mesic assessed that the two countries' joint goals were to join the EU and NATO, but also cooperation within the Central European initiative (CEI), the Visegrad Group, CEFTA and the Vilnius Group. The aim of the presentation of the port of Rijeka in Bratislava was to spur Slovakian business people to use its potentials to export goods to countries overseas, and to invest in the Rijeka free zone.
