CROATIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY HAILS UN SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION AGAINST TERRORISM

The Croatian Foreign Ministry hailed Saturday's adoption of Resolution 1373 of the UN Security Council, which aims at improving international cooperation in fighting terrorism. The Ministry assessed the Resolution particularly significant because it has been supported by all 15 Security Council member-countries, and therefore enabled a global fight against the global enemy- terrorism, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday. Since the resolution has been adopted under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, it represents an obligation for all the member-countries, Croatia included. As an active part of the world organization, as well as the other significant international organizations (OESS, Council of Europe, Partnership for Peace), Croatia has already declared its determination in cooperating in a global fight against terrorism, the announcement furthers. "In that context, the initiative by the Croatian President Mesic about an anti-terrorist coalition that would express Croatia's aspiration to be an active part in fighting terrorism is clearly understood" says the announcement, and points out that "Croatia has shown and will be showing its affiliation with the anti-terrorist coalition. Such actions signify a continuum of Croatia's affirmation in the foreign affairs section, especially in terms of its ambition to join the EU and NATO."
