Partnership for Peace Exercise ‘Taming the Dragon – Dalmatia 2002”

The first civilian and military field exercise of the NATO and PfP entitled “Taming the Dragon – Dalmatia 2002” in Republic of Croatia and under the sponsorship of the Stability Pact in greater Makarska area, took place on May 22-24, 2002.
The exercise included simulation of putting out forest fires, rescuing people from the Biokovo mountains, search and rescue at sea, decontamination after incidents with hazardous substances and salvaging after serious traffic accident. The aim was to develop regional cooperation and coordination among the neighboring states and members of the Euroatlantic security integration for crisis management in case of a disaster. 23 countries participated in the exercise, with more than 1000 various specialist troops.
