Croatian Government Gives $710 Thousand as Financial Aid to Tsunami-Hit Countries
Zagreb, December 29, 2004 (Hina) – The Croatian Government on Wednesday said it will allocate four million kuna ($710 thousand) as aid for tsunami-hit countries India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Thailand.
Each of the four countries will be given one million kuna ($180 thousand), and the financial assistance will be sent via the Croatian Red Cross.
Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said at the government's session in Zagreb today that the disaster, caused by a extremely strong quake and consequent tsunamis, shocked the entire world.
He offered condolences to the head of Zagreb University, Helena Jasna Mencer, on the death of her three-year-old granddaughter, Vivian Slot, who was killed in Thailand last Sunday. Mr. Sanader also extended condolences to other families whose members died in tsunami-hit countries.
