Croatia’s Energy Industry: Strategic
Opportunities for U.S. Companies

Washington, DC, February 13, 2002 - Major Croatian companies from the energy sector held a presentation followed by a press conference on February 13, 2002 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, D.C. The conference titled Croatia’s Energy Industry: Strategic Opportunities for U.S. Companies, co-sponsored by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency and the U.S. Department of Commerce in cooperation with the U.S. Export-Import Bank and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), included a briefing on Croatia’s energy sector by the leading officials from the industry sector and government, presentation of the U.S. Government programs as well as individual company meetings. Croatian officials participating in the conference included Mr. Tomislav Dragičević, CEO, Industrija Nafte d.d. (INA), Mr. Ivo Čović, CEO, Hrvatska Elektroprivreda d.d. (HEP) and Ms. Vesna Trnokop-Tanta, CEO, Jadranski Naftovod d.d. (JANAF) as well as different government officials. The purpose of the conference was presenting the planned modernization and privatization of the state-owned Croatian companies from the energy sector and seeking potential partners among the American counterparts.
After the conference, a Statement of Agreement, summarizing the past successful cooperation and laying the foundation for the future bilateral cooperation, was signed between the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) and the Ex-Im Bank of the United States at the Croatian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
