US – Adriatic Charter Member Countries Meeting in New York

New York, September 24 – Members of the U.S.-Adriatic Charter held discussions today about the steps each country is taking on the path towards NATO membership. The foreign ministers of Albania, Macedonia and Croatia held talks with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell.

After the meeting, Croatian Foreign Minister Dr. Miomir Zuzul said that if the preparations for NATO membership continue to proceed well, “each of the three countries has a good chance of fully joining NATO as early as 2006 or 2007.”

It was agreed during the talks that Croatia will be host to a ministerial-level meeting of the Adriatic Charter countries, that is due to take place November 12-14. According to Foreign Minister Zuzul, Secretary of State Powell and other U.S. officials at the meeting praised Croatia’s greater engagement in Afghanistan.
