Croatian Minister Attending WTO Conference in Cancun

WASHINGTON/CANCUN, Sept 13 - Croatia is seeking special benefits for its farming and industrial products at the WTO ministerial conference in Cancun, said Croatian Economy Minister Ljubo Jurcic, who is attending the conference in the Mexican resort.

"Croatia is attending the Cancun conference as a newly admitted member of the WTO, which it joined in 2000 as part of efforts to protect its interests, primarily by seeking special benefits in the area of agriculture and industrial products," Jurcic said.

The Cancun conference, five-day event taking place in the midst of strong anti-capitalist protests, is addressing ways to reduce the rift between the rich and the poor and the agricultural reform.

Croatian Ambassador to U.S. and Mexico, Dr Ivan Grdesic, also attended the conference and met officials from Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Economy.
