Washington, July 24, 2002 – Croatian Minister of Tourism Ms Pave Zupan Ruskovic visited the U.S. to discuss the possibility of direct air flight connection between Croatia and the U.S.
Ms Zupan
Ruskovic, accompanied by Croatian Ambassador to the U.S., Ivan Grdesic, visited
Atlanta, GA, where she met Delta Airlines President and CEO Leo Mullin and his
colleagues. Among them was Ivan Dezelic, one of Delta Airlines senior Directors,
who is of Croatian origin.
One of the conclusions from the meeting was that the first step in establishing direct air flight connection between U.S. and Croatia will be the broadening of cooperation between Delta Airlines and Croatia Airlines, Croatian national air carrier.
"Both companies have code share agreements with Air France, AlItalia and Czech CSA who would increase number of flights to Croatia while Delta Airlines would offer Croatian destinations to its transcontinental passengers", said Zupan Ruskovic. Reminding that PanAm had 17 flights a week to Yugoslavia in 1988, Minister Zupan Ruskovic concluded that Delta Airlines might fly to Zagreb and Dubrovnik by 2006 and thus increase the number of American tourists visiting Croatia.
In summer 2002, there were 7 percent more American tourists visiting Croatia than summer before.

During her stay in US, Croatian Tourism Minister used the opportunity to meet representatives of several tourism agencies. She also visited headquarters of TV network CNN in Atlanta whereshe made the agreement upon the continuation of promotion campaign of Croatia on CNN International.
